Set the Code 128 Symbology Character Set to Auto

If you use the Code 128 symbology for your bar code, the character set must be set to Auto in order for the bar code to be usable. The character set property is found in the Property Grid for the bar code report control.

Warning: If the character set is not set to Auto for the Code 128 bar code control, the resulting bar code may not display as expected; instead the bar code may display a message indicating, “There are invalid characters in the text.” To avert this situation, SET the character set to Auto for the Code 128 bar code control.

To set the character set for the Code 128 symbology, follow these steps:

  1. In your label report, select the Bar Code control from the tool box.

  1. Drag the bar code control to your label report and place it in the report.

  1. Select the bar code control and right-click to open the Property Grid for this specific control.
  1. In the View portion of the ribbon, select Windows > Properties from the ribbon to open the Properties window.

  1. In the Properties window, make sure that the Bar code is selected.

  1. Next, click the Behavior icon Behavior Iconto bring this portion of the Properties window to the front.

  1. Expand the Symbology portion of the window. The Character Set field appears. (The symbology should be set to 128 if using Code 128 for your barcode.)

  1. Click the dropdown arrow in the Character Set field.

 

  1. Select Auto CharSet from the dropdown list options.

  1. The Character Set for the Code 128 Symbology will now be set to Auto Charset.
